Ryanair has issued an “important” warning to passengers with bookings for flights departing from UK airports ahead of their journeys. The alert comes in anticipation of changes to the 100ml liquids rule for hand luggage, which is expected to be phased out from June 1st.

The budget airline is known for its affordable routes to a myriad of destinations, making it a popular choice among travellers. The current restrictions on liquids were introduced following a thwarted terrorist attempt back in 2006.

However, in 2022, the Government announced that all airports would revise this rule, increasing the permitted volume of liquids from 100ml to two litres. Furthermore, new screening equipment would be installed at each airport by different dates, leading up to the final deadline of June 2024, reports the Liverpool Echo.

A recent email circulated amongst Ryanair customers with the subject line “important travel information”, provided a reminder of the anticipated changes: “We want to remind passengers that despite upcoming changes to the rule, the 100ml limit on liquids still applies across UK airports and will begin to be phased out starting June 1st 2024.”

The email also entreats passengers to check the websites of the airports they plan to depart from for the most accurate and up-to-date details on the revised liquids policy, as regulations may vary.

It added: “We advise you to adhere to the policy of each airport to avoid delays in security.”
