Brits flying on the likes of easyJet or Ryanair have been warned they could face serious consequences if they don’t heed an important rule.

Many of us might be planning a winter break to escape the bitter cold, or even eyeing up a holiday over the Christmas period. But if you’re considering one of three destinations, there’s one important thing to consider.

Many of us now choose to present our boarding passes on our phones – not only does it save time and money, but many of us no longer have printers at home, and it can be a pain to have to travel to get a physical copy of our boarding card.

But if you’re travelling to certain hotspots, not having a physical copy could land you a hefty fine. Budget travel guru Sabrina Escapes took to TikTok and said those heading to Morocco in particular should be ready to present their printed boarding pass

“Airlines have just issued a boarding pass warning for holidaymakers heading to this popular destination,” she said. “If you’ve got a trip booked, make sure you’re checking the boarding pass rules.

“Both Ryanair and easyJet have shared warnings to UK holidaymakers regarding their holidays to Morocco. This is due to the local rules in Morocco which mean you’re unable to use your mobile boarding pass.

“So, you must print off a paper copy of your boarding pass. Regardless of if you’re travelling with hand luggage, check-in baggage or no baggage at all, you still need to go to the check-in desk. This is because they need to check that you’ve got your paper boarding pass, you’re all checked in, and if you aren’t they will definitely sort you out – but you’ll probably receive a fine.”

She added people on TripAdvisor have reported being fined as much as €50, or about £42, for not having their boarding passes printed off at Moroccan airports.

This rule means the queue to check in might be longer than usual, so it is recommended that you give yourself plenty of time at the airport before your flight.

And it’s not just Morocco you need to be wary of. Ryanair also advises customers travelling anywhere in Turkey – except Dalaman Airport – and to Tirana, Albania, that mobile boarding passes will not be accepted and they will instead need to print them off at home.

“We accept mobile boarding passes on flights from the majority of airports on our network,” the airline says on its website. “However unfortunately some airports cannot accept mobile boarding passes yet. Customers traveling from these airports must check in online and print out a paper boarding pass for their flight(s).”

There is usually the option to print your boarding pass at the airport, but this may cost you money.
