Rupert Lowe: Top Tory opens door to defection amid Reform UK civil war

Tory shadow minister Andrew Griffith has said he would welcome anyone into the Conservative Party who wants to remove the current “socialist Government”, when asked about suspended Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe.

Speaking on GB News, Griffith extended an open invitation to those who share his desire to oust Labour from power.

His comments come amid ongoing turmoil within Reform UK following the suspension of Lowe, who had the party whip removed last Friday.

Lowe was suspended after allegations of threatening violence against Reform chairman Zia Yusuf and claims of “serious bullying” within his office.

Griffith suggested he would not oppose Lowe joining the Tories

The Great Yarmouth MP has strongly denied all allegations, describing them as a “malicious witch hunt” after he criticised Reform leader Nigel Farage.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are investigating the matter.

Griffith was explicit in his invitation when asked specifically about Rupert Lowe on GB News.

“The Conservative Party has its own procedures on how you join,” he said.

“I would welcome anybody into the Conservative Party who like me, so desperately wants to get rid of this socialist Government at the earliest opportunity.”

The shadow minister was quick to pivot from Reform’s internal disputes to highlight his party’s parliamentary opposition efforts.

“I know the media loves their soap opera but it is the Conservative Party who are providing daily opposition,” Griffith stated.

He emphasised the party’s focus on challenging Labour’s legislative agenda.

“This afternoon, we will be moving amendments to the devastating Employment Rights Bill that is going to slow growth and we will see rising unemployment,” he said.

“We are providing that opposition and if anybody wishes to join us – I would urge them to do so.”
