A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder a nurse who was stabbed in a hospital’s acute medical unit.
Roman Haque is accused of stabbing Achamma Cherian at the Royal Oldham hospital at about 23:30 on Saturday.
Haque, 37, of Yasmin Gardens, Royton, Oldham, stood in the dock at Manchester Magistrates’ Court for a brief five-minute hearing, during which he was also charged with possession of a bladed article – a pair of scissors – in a public place.
No pleas were given and there was no application for bail ahead of the next hearing, at Manchester Crown Court Minshull Street, on 18 February.
