Robert Saleh has no plans on returning to the NFL this season after being fired by the New York Jets on Tuesday, it has been claimed.

Saleh and the Jets parted ways on Tuesday after New York’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London on Sunday left them 2-3 for the season.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was said to be ‘blindsided’ by the news and is expected to address Saleh’s exit on Wednesday’s Pat McAfee show.

Now, according to San Francisco Chronicle columnist Michael Silver, Saleh plans on a break for the rest of the season before planning on a return next year as a defensive coordinator.

Silver wrote on X: ‘Robert Saleh plans to regroup, go on vacation with his family and prepare for the next hiring cycle, when he should be in demand as a defensive coordinator.

Head coach Robert Saleh was abruptly fired by the New York Jets on Tuesday

‘He has no plans to join anyone’s staff during the 2024 season, should an opportunity arise.’

The 45-year-old Saleh worked as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers for three years before heading to New York.

He is highly regarded for his defensive coaching – the New York defense has not been much of an issue under his leadership with more pressing issues around the offense.

Saleh has been replaced at the Jets by Jeff Ulbrich for the remainder of the season.

The Jets are back in action for Monday Night Football next week when they host the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.

After that, they have two road games against the Steelers and the Patriots before they take on the Houston Texans on Halloween.
