Rishi Sunak has been forced to defend his decision to call a snap general election on July 4.

The Prime Minister, who announced the 2024 General Election date yesterday, addressed concerns amid speculation Tory rebels could look to oust him ahead of polling day.

Speaking to GB News from Derby this morning, Sunak said: “If you look at what has just happened over the last few weeks, I think it is clear that the economy has turned a corner and the economy, economic stability, is the foundation of everything else we want to achieve as a country.”
