A popular holiday chocolate product sold nationwide at Aldi grocery stores has been recalled because it may contain ingredients that could be deadly to some Americans.

Silvestri Sweets Inc. of Geneva, Illinois is expanding its recall of its 5oz bags of Choceur-branded Holiday Barks because they may contain undeclared pecans, which millions of Americans are allergic to.

For people with a pecan allergy, the FDA recall notice stated they ‘run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction’ if they consume the product.

The expanded recall was initiated after it was discovered that the Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark had been packaged in Cookie Butter Holiday Bark packages, resulting in undeclared pecan.

An investigation revealed the issue may have stemmed from a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process.

The initial recall was announced November 26, 2025 due to undeclared pecans and wheat.

The items included in that recall were Cookie Butter Holiday Bark packed in 5oz Choceur-branded stand up pouch bags with lot number 29225 and best by date of May 2026, and Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark packed in 5oz Choceur-branded stand up pouch bags with lot number 29225 and best by date of August 2026.

The expanded recall Tuesday applies to Cookie Butter Holiday Bark packed in 5oz Choceur-branded stand up pouch bags with lot number 28525 and best by date of May; lot number 29925 and best by date of May 2026; and lot number 30625 with best by date of June 2026.

It also applies to Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark packed in 5oz Choceur-branded stand up pouch bags with lot number 28525 and best by date of August 2026; lot number 29925 and best by date of August 2026; and lot number 30625 with best by date of September 2026.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, about 20 million Americans have some type of food allergy, including 16 million adults and 4 million kids.

Tree nuts, which includes pecans, are among the most common allergens. About one percent of people in the US, 3.5 million, have a tree nut allergy.

For people with an allergy, consuming pecans could cause mild symptoms such as hives and itching or life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Anaphylaxis is a severe potentially fatal allergic reaction that causes the throat to swell, vomiting, dizziness and difficulty breathing.

Approximately 225 deaths occur due to anaphylaxis in the US each year.

The FDA notice is urging people who may have the recalled products to throw them away.

This recall follows one from earlier this week that included separate chocolate bars with an undeclared allergen.

Fran’s Chocolates, Ltd. of Seattle, Washington, recalled 112 units of Fran’s Pure Bar Almondmilk Chocolate because it contains hazelnut – also a tree nut – but the ingredient is not listed on the ingredients label.

The recall applies to the almond milk chocolate 46 percent Madagascar Plant-Based product sold in 1.1oz packages specifically.

It was issued after a supplier informed Fran’s that the almond milk chocolate ingredient tested positive for trace amounts of hazelnuts because it was processed on the same equipment with other products that may have contained hazelnuts.

The chocolate bar was sold in four Fran’s Chocolate stores in Seattle and was available for purchase nationwide online at the store’s website between October 9, 2025 and December 14, 2025.

The FDA received a report of one adverse allergic event related to the consumption of the chocolate bar.

No reports of severe illness or death have been reported in connection to the recall.
