Queen Camilla is “pleased” that King Charles has cancelled a major engagement abroad, according to inside sources.

The King, 75, is set to miss Cop29 next month amid the monarch’s ongoing cancer treatment.

The monarch is known for being a lifelong environmentalist, and organisers of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference had hoped he would be able to attend the event in Azerbaijan.

It is understood the Government decided not to ask King Charles to represent the country this year.

Sources told The Mirror that No10 felt “an abundance of caution” was needed given the monarch’s current health battle.

They said: “The King will not be going to Cop.

“He has not been asked by the Government to attend the event and he is also mindful of his own commitments following the upcoming autumn tour.”

A friend of Charles and Camilla claimed that the Queen is “pleased” about the King not going to Azerbaijan.

They told The Daily Beast: “Camilla will be pleased he is not going straight off to Azerbaijan.

“She didn’t particularly want him to go to Australia, and she will be encouraging him to take it easy once he gets back—never an easy task.”

The King was thought to be displeased when he was banned from going to Cop27 in 2022 by former Prime Minister Liz Truss.

He attended Cop28 the following year, delivering the opening address.

The King’s family and aides will likely be encouraging Charles, who is being treated for cancer, to take plenty of time to recuperate after the 6,000-mile round trip.

Charles’s tour to Australia, which kicks off next week, has been “modified” by his aides to make allowances for his illness.

However, the fact the tour is continuing at all is being seen as a testament to Charles’s resilience, and evidence that his treatment is going well.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Charles is to “pause” his cancer treatment for the 11-day duration of the tour.
