Waitrose is the latest supermarket to recall a food product as it may be unsafe for some consumers to eat.
Dell’Ugo Prawn, Garlic and Chilli Ravioli 250g has been recalled due to an undeclared fish allergen. While an allergic reaction to fish can be mild or moderate, in some cases it is severe, with symptoms including breathing difficulties, dizziness and collapse.

Waitrose told shoppers: “We are recalling Dell’Ugo Prawn, Garlic & Chilli Ravioli due to an undeclared fish allergen.”
Affected customers were told “do not consume” the product but instead, to package it up and return it to their local Waitrose & Partners branch for a full refund.
The supermarket added: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”

Allergy UK has important information about fish and shellfish allergies. Experts said: “A fish/shellfish allergic reaction occurs when the body recognises the food protein as harmful and mounts an allergic response.
“An allergic reaction to seafood [the collective term for fish and shellfish] can be mild or moderate (swollen lips, face or eyes, itching, tingling mouth, hives, rash, abdominal pain, vomiting) or severe (breathing difficulties, dizziness or collapse).
“Fish/shellfish reactions have the potential to cause anaphylaxis, which is the most severe form of an allergic reaction.”
Mild to moderate symptoms include hives (rash), tingling mouth, swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat, itching, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
“Severe symptoms include difficult or noisy breathing, wheezing, persistent cough, chest tightness, hoarse voice and difficulty swallowing.”
