Britons in Northern Ireland have been issued an important food warning as several hummus products have been recalled.
The products may contain animal matter, making them unsafe to eat. Those who have purchased the products have been urged not to consume them.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) stated: “The Happy Pear is recalling various products because they may contain animal matter.
“The possible presence of animal matter may make this product unsafe to consume.”

Five products have been affected by the recall. Affected customers were warned: “The Happy Pear is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.
“These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.”
The Happy Pear told customers: “As a precautionary measure, The Happy Pear are recalling the above batches of products which contain canned chickpeas as an ingredient, as a specific batch of chickpeas which were used is subject to recall due to the possible presence of foreign matter.
“If you have purchased the above batch of product, please do not consume it, return it to the store where it was purchased, where you will be issued with a refund.”
The Happy Pear apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused and thanked them for their cooperation. For further information, customers were advised to contact The Happy Pear on their careline at 021 4217619.
The FSA echoed this advice, urging customers not to consume the product and instead, return it to stores for a refund.
While food recalls are not too common, they must always be taken seriously when they do occur.
The FSA explained why food products are sometimes recalled or withdrawn. The Government department stated: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.
“In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
