Morrisons has issued an urgent recall after Ione of its food products was deemed unsafe for some consumers.

In a new allergen alert, the supermarket shared that Wheyhey Katsu Chicken with Rice 300g has been pulled from shelves due to a risk of peanut allergen contamination.

Morrisons issued a statement to shoppers, notifying them about the recall.

This read: “Due to a supplier contamination issue, we are recalling the above product because it may contain peanut allergen, which could pose a risk to those consumers who have a peanut allergy.

“This affects only the above listed product. Only the best before date listed in this notice is affected.

“If you have purchased the above product and have a peanut allergy, do not eat them.”

Customers were advised to check if they had purchased the affected product by taking a photo of the supermarket’s notice or writing down the details at home.

Morrisons continued: “Please return to any store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.”

Allergy UK provided some important information about peanut allergy and its symptoms.

Experts said: “Signs and symptoms usually occur within minutes of contact with peanuts, but can also occur up to one hour later. Most allergic reactions are mild but they can also be moderate or severe.

“Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction which can be life-threatening.

“Mild to moderate symptoms include an itchy mouth, tongue and throat, swelling of lips, around the eyes or face, red raised itchy rash (often called nettle rash, hives or urticaria), vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, runny nose and sneezing.

“Any one or more of the following symptoms are a sign of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) and should be treated as a medical emergency.

“If available, adrenaline should be given without delay and an ambulance called with the call operator informed that it is anaphylaxis.

“Severe symptoms of anaphylaxis include swelling of the tongue and/or throat, difficulty in swallowing or speaking, change in voice (hoarse voice), wheeze (whistling noise) or persistent cough, difficult or noisy breathing, dizziness, collapse, loss of consciousness (due to a drop in blood pressure), pale, floppy, sudden sleepiness in babies.”

The food recall is the latest in recent days. Britons have been warned that 22 foods were pulled from UK shelves including a curry sold in Sainsbury’s.

Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s also pulled snacks from shelves over health fears.
