Dunnes stores are recalling several of its cheeses and products containing cheese after it was discovered of the possible presence of listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is a species of pathogenic (disease-causing) bacteria which can lead to several health complications if digested.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Dunnes Stores is recalling several of its cheeses and products containing cheese because of the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes in them.
“The products have been manufactured by or contain ingredients from Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese in the Republic of Ireland and are sold in Northern Ireland by Dunnes Stores.”

The FSA said: “The possible presence of listeria monocytogenes in the products listed above.
“Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.
“However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.
“Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one-month-old and people with weakened immune systems.”

“Dunnes Stores is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores in Northern Ireland that are selling the products.”
Dunnes Stores said in a statement: “Do not eat the affected products, instead return it to a Dunnes Stores where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.
“We apologise that it has been necessary to recall these products and for the inconvenience caused.”
