Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have been tipped for a new role, as the York sisters have a “much higher approval rating” than Prince Andrew, a royal commentator has claimed.

The princesses are not currently working royals, however, the royal author suggested they are more likely to be asked to perform duties by King Charles than their father.

When asked if Eugenie and Beatrice could make good working royals, Gareth Russell exclusively told GB News: “I think they would.”

The royal author, who wrote The Palace: From the Tudors to the Windsors, 500 Years of British History at Hampton Court, added: “They are broadly speaking very popular.

“We have seen Princess Beatrice handle the crowds very well at her grandmother’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

“The princesses also certainly have a much higher public approval rating than their father.

“There was a suggestion a year or two ago, because of the Duke of York’s unpopularity, that his daughters would be caught in the wake of that if you like.

“But I don’t think that’s happening any longer.”

Prince Andrew stepped down as a working royal in November 2019 after he sat down for a BBC Newsnight interview, discussing his links with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The prince also spoke about the US civil case, where the Duke of York was accused by Virginia Giuffre of sexually abusing her on three occasions when she was 17 years old.

During the interview, Andrew stressed that he had no recollection of ever meeting Giuffre, and has repeatedly denied the allegations.

In February 2022, Giuffre and the prince reached an out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed amount, including no admission of guilt on the claims against the Duke of York.

As of 2023, Prince Andrew’s popularity stands at just nine per cent, while Eugenie’s is at 30 per cent, and Beatrice has a 25 per cent approval rating.

Russell continued: “We have also seen Princess Eugenie sit down for an interview with the journalist Kate Thornton where she was very candid about her grandmother’s legacy, and how much the monarchy means to her personally.

“So we are seeing two princesses who are capable of fulfilling what people will like, and hopefully the King invites them to do so.”
