Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence are marking their 32nd wedding anniversary today, following what Prince William recently described as a “brutal” year for the Royal Family.

The couple exchanged vows on December 12, 1992, at the historic Crathie Kirk near Balmoral, Scotland.

The intimate ceremony saw Sir Timothy in his naval uniform, whilst traditional Scottish bagpipes played as the newlyweds departed the church.

The couple celebrated their post-ceremony festivities at Craigowan Lodge on the Balmoral Estate.

The Princess Royal chose a cream ensemble for her winter wedding, featuring a wool crepe jacket and skirt, paired with a silk-satin blouse.

The couple now reside at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, where they share the 700-acre estate with Anne’s children from her first marriage and their families.

Princess Anne’s wedding anniversary comes after a “brutal” year for the Royal Family.

In a video interview to mark the end of his week-long visit to Cape Town in South Africa for the Earthshot prize awards ceremony in November, Prince William was asked about the year 2024.

“Honestly, it’s been dreadful,” he said. “It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. Trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.

“But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”

Princess Anne, 74, suffered a blow to the head from a horse in June on her Gatcombe Park Estate, which left her hospitalised for five nights.

She later returned to work, even travelling to Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games.

In a remarkable display of sustainability, Princess Anne’s wedding attire in 1992 had already made its public debut six months prior.

The Princess Royal, known for her practical approach to fashion, chose to rewear a £400 Tom Bowker jacket and skirt ensemble she had previously worn at Royal Ascot.

“After her wedding date was set, the woman who is more at home in jodhpurs, riding boots and tweed jackets, rifled through her wardrobe and resurrected the suit for the low-key wedding ceremony,” The Mail reported at the time.

The wool crepe outfit proved perfect for the chilly Scottish winter day.

While at Ascot, Anne had paired the white outfit with a straw hat and pinned-up hair, whereas for her wedding she opted for a more romantic look.

The intimate ceremony was attended by just 30 guests, marking a stark contrast to Anne’s first wedding at Westminster Abbey.

Among those present were her parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, alongside the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.

Her children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, were in attendance, as were then-Prince Charles and Prince Andrew.
