Prince William has made a donation in support of Sam Stables, a Duchy of Cornwall tenant and Herefordshire sheep farmer who is walking 142 miles from Ross-on-Wye to London to raise awareness of mental health in the farming community.

Mr Stables took to social media, confirming that the Prince of Wales donated £5,000 in support of his walk.

He founded the Herefordshire-based charity We Are Farming Minds, of which the prince is a patron.

In addition, the sheep farmer has partnered with the Farm Safety Foundation, also known as Yellow Wellies, and its Mind Your Head campaign for the challenge.

In a message posted on Mr Stables’ Instagram account, the prince wrote: “Keep going, Sam! You’re doing an amazing job! Thinking of you, W”.

Mr Stables, whose Instagram page is called Farmer Sam’s Walk of Hope, thanked the Duchy of Cornwall and Prince William for the donation.

He wrote: “WOW!!! @theduchyofcornwall this is so generous!! Thank you so much Prince William.”

In a video shared on social media, Mr Stables said: “Hello everybody, I’ve just had some incredible news.

“I’m just walking out of Brill, and everything in Brill seems to be brill [brilliant], because I’ve just heard the news that Prince William’s kindly donated £5,000 to The Walk, which is absolutely incredible.

“I’ve just been given that news now and wanted to share that with you guys and… yeah… I’m absolutely over the moon, what a kind gesture and yeah, Brill is brill! See you later.”

The prince most recently met Mr Stables in January during a visit to Herefordshire to highlight the importance of mental health support across the farming community.

Prince William, 43, became patron of We Are Farming Minds in March 2025.

LATEST ROYAL DEVELOPMENTS

The charity provides fully funded counselling, a 24/7 support line, training, social events, information, advice and broader support designed to raise awareness of the importance of mental health.

Mr Stables’ walk from Ross-on-Wye to London is intended to support the Mind Your Head campaign and raise awareness of mental health challenges faced by those working in agriculture.

Prince William is currently in Saudi Arabia, where he enjoyed the “stunning” desert landscape of a nature reserve today.

GETTY

The future king was driven through towering red sandstone canyons and past dunes as he learnt about “exciting” conservation plans to reintroduce native animals, including the Arabian leopard.

William is a long-term campaigner on wildlife conservation, and spent much of Wednesday morning at Sharaan Nature Reserve in AlUla province, a vast 1,540km square area of desert, mountain and former rangeland.

When the prince saw a formation known as the Dancing Rocks, twisted stone towers shaped by wind and erosion, in the Raggasat Valley, he said: “It’s stunning scenery, it really is. I love looking down the valley as well.”
