Prince William made a heartwarming promise to Princess Charlotte before heading to South Africa, the future King has revealed.

William, 42, is in South Africa for his Earthshot Prize Awards, an organisation which he founded in 2020.

The Prince of Wales has been spotted wearing a bracelet with the word “Papa” during his trip to Cape Town.

He revealed the friendship bracelet was made for him by his daughter Princess Charlotte, nine, and that she asked him to “promise” not to lose the accessory while abroad.

William told the BBC: “Well, this is… a relic, if you like, from a Taylor Swift concert that my daughter decided that she wanted to create a bracelet for.

“She gave it to me when I came away. So I promised to wear it and try not to lose it while I was out here.”

Princess Charlotte is a “huge Taylor Swift fan” and had wanted to go to the Eras tour for months before the Royal Family attended the concert at Wembley, sources previously revealed.

The nine-year-old was joined by her older brother Prince George and her father Prince William at the concert at Wembley Stadium in June.

Royal fans were delighted after Swift and the Prince of Wales shared photographs together on social media.

Meanwhile, a video of the royals enjoying the song “Shake it Off” quickly went viral thanks to William’s so-called “dad-dancing”.

The family were joined in a box by Mike and Zara Tindall, as well as their close friend Natalie Pinkham.

Speaking to ET, the insider said: “Princess Charlotte is the huge Taylor Swift fan in the family.

“She has wanted to go to the concert for months, but with her mum being treated for cancer, this was a really special day to be able to celebrate her Papa’s birthday like this.”

Charlotte and George, as well as King Charles and the Duchess of Edinburgh, have all been spotted wearing friendship bracelets this year – a nod to a lyric in Swift’s song “You’re On Your Own, Kid”.

In the song, the singer says: “So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it. You’ve got no reason to be afraid.”
