Prince William has issued a heartfelt message on the “historic achievement” of Aston Villa.

The Prince of Wales posted a congratulatory message to his favourite football team on social media.

Aston Villa qualified for the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League after Tottenham lost 2-0 to Manchester City on Tuesday evening.

William wrote: “We are Champions League! A historic season and an amazing achievement. Thanks to Unai, the whole squad and everyone at @AVFCOfficial. Can’t wait for next season. #UTV!”

He concluded the post with his signature “W” showing that the post came straight from the Prince of Wales.

The 41-year-old prince is a lifetime Villa fan and often watches the team from the sidelines with his son, Prince George.

The last time that Villa competed in the Champion’s League was in the 1982/3 season when the tournament was still called the European Cup.

On May 2, the prince was pictured cheering on Villa as they took on Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League.

During the match, William was seen in the director’s box roaring with pride when Villa scored and talked enthusiastically to staff members throughout, despite the disappointing 2-4 loss.

The previous month, the prince travelled with his son George to watch Villa’s 2-1 win against Lille in the first leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-final.

As they were leaving the stadium, William commented on his son’s feelings towards his football team.

When asked if Prince George was “part of the pride,” William responded: “Oh yes, he’s loving it.”

Prince William explained why he is a fan of the Claret & Blue when speaking with Gary Lineker in 2015.

He said: “A long time ago at school, I got into football big time. All my friends were Chelsea or Manchester United fans, and I didn’t really want to follow the run-of-the-mill team.

“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa has always had a great history.”

The Prince of Wales took over the role of President of the Football Association in 2006 from the Duke of York who held the role from 2000 to 2006.
