Prince William has interrupted his half-term break with Kate, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to issue a tribute.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are not undertaking royal duties this week as they spend time with their children.

However, William has taken time out to send a message of congratulations to Billy Monger.

The athlete has broken the Ironman record for a double amputee at the World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

He shared the news on his social media account saying: “14:23:56 – I can’t believe what just happened, World Championship Record Broken. I am officially an IRONMAN.”

The Prince of Wales replied to the message, saying: “Well done Billy, inspirational effort. W.”

The ‘W’ at the end of the message represents that the statement was penned by Prince William rather than one of his team.

The King has recently made a change that allows Prince William more freedom, but the heir to the throne may be reluctant to utilise it.

Prince William and Princess Kate are navigating their children’s half-term holidays.

Despite the potential for travel, it appears the family opted to stay closer to home.

The King and Queen Camilla was abroad in Australia and Samoa across the last week.

With their children on half-term holidays, William and Kate could have been tempted to take advantage of the break for a getaway.

Prince William is one of King Charles’s councillors of state and the heir to the throne.

This position requires him to be present when the King is out of the country. However, a recent change in 2022 has provided some flexibility.

MPs backed a new law allowing Princess Anne and Prince Edward to stand in for King Charles at official engagements.

Royal commentator Ingrid Seward explained: “They were appointed as senior working royals who could deputise as well. So strictly William does not have to be here if they are.”

Despite this, she added: “He could go abroad but might not be wise at this particular juncture.”
