Prince Harry harboured “genuine hope” of hearing from Prince William and King Charles after publishing his memoir Spare, according to an explosive new Vanity Fair article.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly confided in a guest at an event in 2023 that he had not received any contact from royal relatives since the book’s release.
The source told the publication: “That’s sort of what made me so sad. His hope seemed very genuine. And I was just kind of like, ‘Oh, no’.”
They added: “The power of the written word, and the power of the narrative. I don’t know if that’s something he understood while he was doing it.”

The guest suggested Harry had not “absorbed the gravity” of publishing the memoir, which included explosive accusations against his family.
Among the bombshell claims were allegations that Prince William branded Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”, and even pushed Harry into a dog bowl.
Just over a year after Spare’s release, Harry made a brief visit to King Charles in February 2024 following his father’s cancer diagnosis.
The 45-minute meeting marked their first formal encounter since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.

Three months later, Harry returned to the UK for an Invictus Games ceremony but was unable to meet his father due to the monarch’s “full programme”.
Harry’s spokesman said at the time: “The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
In August 2024, Harry and William were seen together for the first time in two years at their uncle Robert Fellowes’ funeral, although it was reported they did not speak.
The pair are thought to not be on speaking terms since Harry released the controversial memoir.
A source close to the couple revealed Meghan has acknowledged her husband’s social struggles since their move to America. They said: “Harry doesn’t know what real life really is.”
The article suggests Meghan acts as a caregiver to her husband, “making his life so easy”, while Harry serves as a “facilitator” of his wife’s wishes.
“I don’t want to be like, oh, it’s an Oedipus thing or whatever, but it kind of feels like she’s reparenting him in a way,” a former palace staffer told the publication.
The bombshell article notes Harry has drawn direct parallels between his late mother Princess Diana and Meghan, expressing fears of “history repeating itself”.
