Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s feud with the Royal Family has sparked calls for the UK Government to take the “nuclear option” over their royal titles.

Parliament could consider stripping the couple of their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles under the new legislation proposed.

Conservative MP Bob Seely has said the House of Commons should consider the move as Meghan and Harry’s feud with the royals continues.

Seely wrote in the Mail: “In the next couple of weeks, I shall present a Bill in Parliament to strip the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of their royal titles.

“I’m not a republican and support the monarchy, but after the latest instalment of the couple’s feud with the rest of the Royal family, I believe that Parliament and the Privy Council should consider a nuclear option.”

He added: added: “My aim is simple: if someone doesn’t want to be royal, that is a decision we respect – but they should not keep the titles and privileges if they trash an institution that plays an important part in our nation’s life.

“Sources close to the Sussexes have stressed that Harry and Meghan are not behind claims made in Omid Scobie’s book. But I suspect that few people believe such denials.”

It comes after King Charles and Kate, Princess of Wales were named as the royals who allegedly “had concerns” regarding how dark Prince Archie’s skin colour would be when he was born in the Dutch version of Omid Scobie’s book Endgame.

The royals were named in the Dutch version of the book due to an error and thousands of copies of Endgame have been pulled from shelves across the Netherlands.

Meghan and Harry have not made a public statement on the matter since the King and Kate were named last week.

Sources close to Meghan Markle, who named the pair in a letter she wrote to the King, have insisted the Duchess of Sussex never intended to publicly identify them and that no one in her camp leaked the information to Scobie.

The Duchess of Sussex claimed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 that there were “concerns and conversations” within the Royal Family about how dark Prince Archie’s skin might be when he was born.

The Royal Family issued a response to Meghan Markle’s interview two days after it aired in March 2021.

The statement said: “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”

It added: “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”
