Physical therapist under fire for saying he was ‘bummed’ Trump’s assassin missed

A physical therapist has come under fire after suggesting online he was disappointed that Donald Trump’s shooter missed.

Stuart Eivers, who works in the Seattle area, wrote on X just hours after the attack: ‘Bummed they missed.’

It was uploaded in a post that tagged a CNN article revealing the former President had been rushed off stage during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

Eivers quickly faced backlash for his comments, with some calling for him to be fired.

His employer, MTI Physical Therapy in Washington, says it is ‘managing the situation with this employee internally’. It adds that Eivers ‘deeply regrets’ posting his reaction online which is ‘inconsistent with his deeper values of non-violence’.

Eivers’ post was first shared on the wildly popular X account Libs of TikTok.

It comes amid a wave of investigations and suspensions in America after healthcare workers, college staff and others were caught making fun of the Trump shooting.

A nurse at a major New York City hospital and a pharmacy worker in Texas have both lost their jobs after posting online saying they were disappointed that the assassination attempt failed.

Responding to Eivers’ comment, one individual said: ‘How different would a patient be treated if they’d walk in wearing a hat or shirt supporting a guy he felt comfortable enough wishing death upon? This absolutely matters.’

A second said: ‘Unprofessional and disgraceful. Seattle deserves better than Stuart Eivers.’

While two others said, ‘his employers should terminate him immediately’, and, ‘when will they learn… bro just lost his job with one post’.

After the posts were revealed, Eivers has since deleted his tweet and his X account.

According to LinkedIn, he has worked as a physical therapist in the Seattle area of Washington state for nearly two-and-a-half decades.

Responding to his comments, his employer said: ‘MTI shares our nation’s outrage at the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump. As a healthcare organization, we do not condone or support violence of any kind.

‘An employee posted a comment on his personal social media account, which doesn’t reflect the views of our company.

‘This employee has acknowledged that his post was inappropriate and inconsistent with his deeper values of non-violence.

‘He deeply regrets posting this unthoughtful and emotional reaction and apologizes for his actions — he realizes that his apology does not make up for exacerbating an already terrible situation. To be clear, he does not wish the former President, or anyone else, any harm.’

They added: ‘MTI is immediately managing the situation with this employee internally, and appreciates your patience and understanding.’

The American Physical Therapy Association, which sets standards for the profession, says that physical therapists should remain impartial.

In its code of ethics, it says: ‘Physical therapists shall act in a respectful manner toward each person regardless of age, gender, race, nationality, religion, ethnicity, social or economic status, sexual orientation, health condition, or disability.

‘Physical therapists shall recognize their personal biases and shall not discriminate against others in physical therapist practice, consultation, education, research, and administration.’
