Journalist Clare Muldoon has been left furious and claimed that students are “paying to be taught nonsense” after a London university encouraged staff to avoid saying “illegal immigrant.”

It has been reported that London Metropolitan University has encouraged staff and students to say “undocumented” instead to avoid offence.

Speaking on GB News, Muldoon fumed: ” You can’t use the term elderly. You can’t use the term OAP. You can’t say youngsters.

“You can’t greet students in the morning by saying, good morning, ladies and gentlemen. You can’t say guys it’s all very generic. It’s all very fluffy and all very woolly, and it removes fact from descriptions.”

She added: “Why are they doing this? It’s like a trigger warning in a theatre before a play. We know it is not real blood it is a play. Do you think that we really have to be told that?

“It is all nonsense, and to be fair, I have got kids who have gone through tertiary education. My youngest daughter is graduating next week.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

“My son has just finished at Newcastle his first year. And to be honest with you, I would abhor the fact that they’d be paying £9,250 a year to be taught nonsense like that, because it’s not forming them, it’s not building them, it’s not building their character with virtue.

“It’s an absolute denial. What do they make up of all this stuff? What is it?”

Playing “devil’s advocate” former Daily Star editor Dawn Neesom argued: “The university are saying the term illegal immigrant, even though factually accurate, can be dehumanising and make people think in a certain way about their fellow students.

“It might make you think one way about them when not necessarily to do so. So I don’t know whether they have any migrants at this university who are studying. And so I think they are trying to hashtag be kind, as we say these days.”

The changes have been made by a London University PA

Nigel Mills, who is standing as the Conservative candidate in Amber Valley in Derbyshire, called the guide “ludicrous woke nonsense.”

He told The Sun: “Illegal migrant is a simple factual term for someone who’s not come to the UK legally.

“Surely universities have better uses for tuition fees than paying people to come up with this rubbish.”

The university said on its website: “We are proud to have a university community that is diverse in age, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, gender identity and many other characteristics.

“It is for this reason that striving for inclusive language use is so important to us – we want to use words that signify respect, recognise the nuances of our lived experience, and truly promote equitable outcomes.”

A spokesperson for London Metropolitan University told Daily Mail: “We take pride in our diverse community and our commitment to creating a welcoming environment where all students can succeed.

“This is not about political correctness; it’s about ensuring everyone feels valued. We stand by our values and the positive impact of this guide.”
