Oscars 2024 FURY as fans blast ‘biggest snub of the decade’ after nominees announced: ‘Horrendous decision!’

Cinemagoers have flooded the web in outrage after this year’s Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Across the 23 categories were several box office hits expected to be up for their respective awards, including Oppenheimer bagging 13 nods while Barbie earned an impressive eight gongs.

There was also little surprise in some of the individual categories with Lily Gladstone putting her Bafta snub behind her to bag a nomination in the Actress in a Leading Role category for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon while director Martin Scorcese is also up for glory for the same film.

The likes of the Emma Stone-led Poor Things, French drama Anatomy of a Fall, Bradley Cooper’s Maestro and many more also took their expected spots in their respective categories.

However, while several in Hollywood will be licking their lips at the prospect of lifting the sought-after gong, a number of very big names won’t have the chance after being snubbed by the Academy.

Among the notable snubs was Barbie’s leading star Margot Robbie missing out on a Lead Actress nod along with the film’s director Greta Gerwig.

Despite success with Bafta and the Golden Globes, box office smash Saltburn has also missed out on any nods.

Previous Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio was given the cold shoulder for his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon while Andrew Scott also missed out despite his acclaimed stint in All of Us Strangers.

The surprise omissions haven’t been let slide by film fans as hundreds took to X, formerly Twitter, to slam some of the decisions.

Not mincing their words, one fan said of Robbie’s snub: “Biggest snub of the decade… Margot Robbie deserved better, she brought a doll to life and made us feel things…#Barbie.”

“Not the Margot and Leo snubs.. #Oscars2024,” a second added while a third was similarly dismayed by the omission: “Margot Robbie not getting nominated is not merely a snub, it’s one of the most horrendous decisions in award show history #Oscars.”

A fourth demanded justice: “How are you nominating everyone in the movie other than the lead? One of the biggest snubs in the history of the #Oscars. Justice for Margot Robbie. #Barbie.”

“Margot Robbie not getting a Lead Actress nomination for Barbie is an all time snub. #Oscars,” added another.

And a sixth said: “I generally don’t believe in snubs bc it is impossible to nominate every deserving performance but that Margot snub is one for the ages. They f**ked up big time. #Oscars.”

The snubs for Gerwig and Robbie led another furious film fan to share: “Like tf??? Snubs for Greta and Margot. They literally saved the cinema last year over the stupid films that nobody even went to see #Oscars.” (sic)

However, there was some support for the confirmed list of nominees, with one fan arguing: “First time I can agree with Oscar Nominations… Oppenheimer sweep is coming… And for the first time, I got all best picture nominations correct. #Oscars.”

The 96th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre on March 10.

And this year it will be broadcast on ITV after the channel bagged the rights in 2023.
