That is an unbelievable performance from Georgia Bell. She just hasn’t found her ceiling since coming back to track and field full-time but she looks absolutely stunned.
The fastest British 1500m runner in history and an Olympic medalist. Stunner.

Muir is being left behind a bit and is trying to claw back some metres. Bell just up ahead and on the tail of the main pack. Will they be able to maintain this pace?

A brilliant race over the last 600m. I thought at one stage Gebrihewet might have stolen it with his burst off the front while the others were in an almighty tangle around that top bend but he didn’t have the legs to make the element of surprise count.
I’m looking forward to seeing that last 400 split from Ingebrigtsen.

It’s good news and bad news from the velodrome where Emma Finucane remains on track for another medal after winning her semi-final but Sophie Capewell is out of the sprint competition. Hamish Turnbull joins Jack Carlin in the keirin quarter-finals having come through the repechage.
There’s three medals to be decided on the last day of track cycling tomorrow: women’s sprint, men’s keirin and the women’s omnium.

It’s pedestrian stuff here and one or two are just starting to get a bit tetchy. Great Britain’s George Mills moves to the front with designs on taking it up but he’s quickly dethrones by the Ethiopians.

GB’s George Mills fell in his heat but was given a reprieve after it was judged that he was tripped, instead of tumbling at his own accord.

The men’s 5,000m final next up. Should be a cracking race this, with plenty of contenders and no Joshua Cheptegei after the Ugandan opted out following his 10,000m success.

Three Americans on the track and Samba-Mayela is the French home favourite. Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico is the reigning Olympic champion.

Marco Arop is such a championship performer and he very nearly pulls it off again, but Wanyonyi does brilliantly to hold him off.
The question all year, when Sedjati had been running those lightning quick times on the circuit, had been of whether he could do it through the rounds. He’s still gone sub 1:42 for the bronze there so let’s not get carried away, but telling that he’s the only man in the top four not to run a personal best. He needed one to win gold.

I tell you what, I’ve spent most of the Olympics saying “who?!” when some random French medalist from the 1988 Games is introduced to open the session, but they really have brought the stars for the track and field.

I need a lie down.
All credit to the officials for keeping track of what on earth was going on throughout that madison. Crashes involving Belgium, Italy and Britain but the most impressive was a cartwheeling Spanish rider after he hit the Belgians at full pace.
In the end, Portugal come from way down to to steal a lap and then win the final sprint. Gold ahead of Italy with Denmark in third. GB end up 10th.
Men’s cycling madison final

The bell goes and Portugal put the hammer down… Denmark are left in their dust – Italy nowhere to be seen!
GOLD for Portugal. GB miles back.
Men’s cycling madison final
17:57 , Marc Mayo
We’ve been going for over 50 minutes in this most gruelling of events and only four points separate the top three – Portugal (45) to Italy (43) to Denmark (41).
The final sprint is worth double points and will surely decide the podium!

Into the 19th of 20 sprints now and Portugal gain a lap for 20 extra points, that puts them silver and three behind Italy.
Denmark are looking to take advantage of Italy having to recover from one of their riders crashing.

Ollie Wood hits the deck pretty hard after being hit by the wheel of one of the Dutch riders. He’s got a pained expression on his face and he’s receiving medical attention. Even without that with 30-odd laps to go, GB’s medal hopes had gone.
Team GB crash!
17:49 , Marc Mayo
Wood is on the deck after a collision with the Dutch rider. Looks like he swiped him from the outside with a headbutt.
Not throwing accusations out there but maybe a little payback for Dutch anger at Jack Carlin’s win over them in the bronze medal of the sprint?

Cunningham vs Cisse
Here go then. All rests on these two minutes.
Triple kick on the inside from Cunningham, then to the head… doesn’t pick up any points for that burst. In fact, loses one for stepping out of the ring.
Pushed out of the ring by Cisse this time, Cunningham 2-0 down with a minute to go.
Big, big review from the British camp. Cunningham adamant he has landed a head kick. He did indeed, easy decision that one.
Cunningham moves 3-2 in front – make that 5-2 after a punch on the inside.
But Cisse responds with one of his own, it’s 5-5 with 15 seconds to go!
And now it’s absolute chaos, both throwing everything at this…. no more points in it.
But Cunningham lands more non-scoring shots – he is through to the Olympic final! A guaranteed medal.

Another penalty for Cunningham, grabbing the leg. Came just after Cisse landed to the trunk, so it’s 6-1.

Another penalty for Cunningham, holding the leg again. Running out of time.

Spinning kick from Cunningham to the trunk, he leads 4-1. More good work, the Briton has a 6-1 advantage with 40 seconds to go in the round.
Headshot to the head, three more points. Cisse responds though, one of his own. 9-4.

A bit of a blow on arrival at the velodrome with the news that Ethan Hayter has pulled out of the men’s madison.

Bit of concern as they both go down and Cunningham holds his ankle – British team don’t need any more injury issues.

0-0 it is. The round goes to Cunningham, he hit the protector more than Alba so just edges it.

Huge emotion as the crowd once again rise to their feet. It’s silver for Raboutou, Pilz takes bronze.

Jessica Pilz the penultimate climber in this final. A strong climb here and McNeice will be out of the medals.
So far, so good from the Austrian. She has gone past McNeice, who will unfortunately not be on the podium.
Pilz is into second, guaranteed herself a medal. Still she battles on, needs to top if she is to stay in the hunt for gold.
Can’t quite do it. Brilliant effort, 147.4 her total. Only Brooke Raboutou on 156 above her.
Over to Janja Garnbret – she needs about 74 points on the lead climb for gold.

Here is Raboutou.
The American is about six holds away from going past McNeice. She gets there, the Briton bumped down to bronze.
Into the gold medal position now, Raboutou looking… I was going to say strong, but she’s off. Came out of nowhere.
That’s 72 on the lead, guaranteeing herself a medal. She’s in tears as she realises that, big smile on her face.

Ai Mori’s turn. After a poor effort on the boulders, she needs near enough a perfect run here. This is her strength, though.
The Japanese climber is flying up this wall. Past the section that did for Betrone and Mackenzie… and she goes beyond McNeice’s mark too.
This is a stunning effort, she’s three holds from the top.
Makes a jump for it… taps it but can’t hold on. Standing ovation from the crowd, 96 points!
Total of 135.1 points. McNeice is now in silver, and needs at least one of Janja Garnbret and Brooke Raboutou to slip up.

Huge roars as France’s Oriane Bertone strides out. She was level with McNeice after the boulder walls.
No issues so far, as Bertrone approaches the section that ended Mackenzie’s climb.
And Bertrone is off too, more good news for McNeice!
A total of 104.5, still McNeice remains at the top of the standings. Bertrone, unsurprisingly, looks gutted.

Oceana Mackenzie next up.
She came into the lead climb in third so if the Australian matches McNeice’s effort, that will probably be it for the Briton’s medal hopes.
Mackenzie moving quickly, she’s looking really solid. Already up to 40 points, still three minutes on the clock.
But she’s off – and off early! That’s 45.1 points, 104.8 overall.
One rival down for McNeice.

Only the Olympics could make you nervous watching someone climb up a wall.
McNeice reaches the 30-point hold, 2:30 on the clock. Her feet look to have slipped off, but she just about saves it.
It’s looking like hard work now… it is hard work, to be fair.
And she’s off, 68 points for McNeice. Her total is 127.6. And now we wait…

Brace yourselves.
Here’s Erin McNeice. Let’s see what she can do in her six minutes. Toby Roberts, who won gold yesterday, is in the front row watching on.

Seo Chae-hyun really impressive, but she’s off with about a minute still on the clock. Couldn’t quite make the jump as she approached the top.
76 points for her, giving a total of 104.90. It won’t be enough for a medal, you’d have to think.

Back to the climbing walls.
It’s time for the leads climbs, Seo Chae-hyun the first to go.
Erin McNeice will be second, looking to set a mark that will be enough for her to snatch a medal.
Taekwondo – women’s 67kg round of 16

Relentless from the Briton. Two more headshots inside 15 seconds and it’s 6-0 in a hurry.
McGowan lands to the trunk, she’s already only four points away from this round, and contest, being ended.
That’ll do it. 58 seconds into round two and we’re down.
McGowan ruthless, even if Traill was a gentle introduction into the competition. She’s through to the quarter-finals this afternoon.

McGowan vs Traill
Barely five seconds in and we have a review from the British camp.
They think there was a headshot… and it’s a successful review. McGowan 3-0 up.
And another headshot, Traill given a count. It’s 10-0 early and McGowan is flying.
That’s the end of the first round after a minute due to the point gap. 13-0 and McGowan is one round away from victory already.

McGowan vs Traill
Rebecca McGowan has walked out ahead of her first taekwondo contest. Big smile on her face, very relaxed.
She picked up a silver medal at the world championships last year – will want to go one better here.
First though, McGowan must beat Fiji’s Venice Traill to reach the quarter-finals.

Lead climb in this final coming up in about 15 minutes.
Reminder that Erin McNeice is in a tie for fourth, 0.2 points off bronze.
Janja Garnbret and Brooke Raboutou look set to battle it out for gold, but that final spot on the podium is wide open.
Cairess reflects on strong marathon run
11:09 , Matt Verri
Emile Cairess finished fourth for Great Britain in the men’s marathon earlier this morning.
He was right in the medal battle until the final few kilometres, a brilliant run from 26-year-old.
“It was a good race,” he told BBC.
“I tried to just pace myself and be sensible and keep myself cool and just try and finish well.
“I think I’m good in hills. I come from Yorkshire so I used to do fell running and it comes quite natural running uphill anyway.
“I just didn’t want to leave anything on the course and really give my best and give 100 per cent to the race and have no regrets.”
Diving – men’s 10m platform semi-finals
10:55 , Matt Verri
Busy day for the 10m platform divers, with the semi-final this morning and then the main event for those who qualify later in the afternoon.
Top 12 have progressed to the main event, and there will be two British divers competing.
Noah Williams, who won synchro silver earlier in the Games, has qualified by the finest of margins in 12th. Less than three tenths of a point in it.
British team-mate Kyle Kothari a bit more comfortable in sixth.

Oceana Mackenzie sits in the bronze-medal position as it stands with 59.7, Erin McNeice and Oriane Bertone just behind on 59.5.
All to play for heading into the lead wall later this morning.

We’ll be bringing you modern pentathlon updates throughout the day.
Great Britain’s Kate French is the defending champion in the women’s event, and she will be eyeing another medal in tomorrow’s final.
She’s currently in the semi-final, along with team-mate Kerenza Bryson. Both make only five out of 12 of their shots after the first run, losing ground.
French currently in fifth, but Bryson has moved up to second after a superb second shoot.
