A New York Police Department (NYPD) officer put a protester in a chokehold during a pro-Palestine rally in Manhattan on Tuesday, May 7, footage shows.

Footage posted to X by news group Status Coup shows police officers pushing pro-Palestine protesters in front of Bryant Park, before one officer puts a protester in a chokehold. Several officers can be seen at the site of the protest, and a few protesters are seen getting detained.

In 2023, the State of New York Court of Appeals upheld a law banning the use of chokeholds by NYPD officers.
