Trying new foods you may not have heard of may be an exciting proposition for those looking to appear more youthful.

Nutritionist Hannah Trueman spoke to GB News about the uncommon foods she recommends adding to your diet for anti-ageing purposes. According to the expert, moringa, astaxanthin and camu camu are excellent for the skin.

The first food the expert advised trying is moringa, a plant which originates from South and South East Asia.

Moringa is packed full of nutrients and antioxidants which help protect the skin.

Moringa is rich vitamins A, C and E, as well as essential amino acids

Hannah said: “The leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree are particularly rich in vitamins A, C and E, as well as essential amino acids. These nutrients help support collagen production, reduce inflammation and promote skin elasticity, all of which can help the skin appear more youthful and plump.

“Moringa is typically sold in powdered form – which can be added to smoothies or just mixed through water – and capsules.”

In addition to this, Hannah recommended astaxanthin as an excellent source of protection from UV damage and oxidative stress (cell damage), which are two huge contributors to ageing.

“Astaxanthin is a potent antioxidant primarily found in microalgae, wild-caught salmon, prawns and krill (wild-caught options are best). It can be taken in a more concentrated form of astaxanthin supplements.”

The nutritionist also advised anti-ageing enthusiasts to incorporate camu camu – a fruit that originates from the Amazon region – into their diets.

This small fruit has bundles of vitamin C, which is one of the strongest nutrients for skin regeneration, and collagen production, as well as enhancing antioxidant defences.

The expert said: “Camu camu is available as a powder, which can be added to smoothies, mixed through yoghurts or blended into homemade protein balls.

“Incorporating these foods into your diet can make a noticeable difference in slowing ageing from the inside out.”
