A woman was stabbed and left with life changing injuries at the hospital where she was working.

It is believed that she is a nurse at Royal Oldham Hospital in Greater Manchester, where the horrific event took place.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police have said that they are not searching for anyone else linked with the attack and confirmed that there was no threat to the wider public.

The woman in her 50s is being treated for serious injuries at the same hospital.

Detective Sergeant Craig Roters from Greater Manchester Police’s Oldham district said: “This is a serious incident which has left a woman in a critical condition.”

He offered his condolences to the victim’s friends and family, promising to support them throughout the ongoing investigation.

He announced that the local community would “expect to see an increase in police presence” as inquiries are carried out, assuring residents that the officials were there to “offer reassurance” and “answer any questions”.
