A County Donegal couple have said their dream home has been extensively damaged after being struck by lightning on Monday afternoon.
Debbie Nesbitt was at home in Newtowncunningham with her three children when she heard thunder outside.
Later, she heard a long bang, which she thought was a bomb, and later saw flames and smoke coming from her roof.
Her husband Keith said they had spent 25 years building their dream home only for the lightning to cause substantial damage.
A major structural examination will have to be carried out and the house assessed by their insurance company.
The family have said, for now, they are just trying to find somewhere to live.
