Drivers are being urged to make use of a new benefit which could see motorists charge their electric vehicles for free for a year.

EDF Energy is offering Britons the chance to get £200 cashback if they sign up for the Pod Point Plug and Power tariff before Boxing Day (December 26).

The cashback offer equates to more than a year of free electric driving, providing the average motorist with 8,244 free energy miles.

The deal is available to both new and existing customers who opt for the unique electric vehicle home charger and tariff bundle.

Experts are urging motorists to make use of the deal before it expires this month

As part of the offer, EDF is aiming to make electric vehicles more affordable and accessible for motorists looking to ditch petrol and diesel cars.

The Pod Point Plug and Power bundle allows customers to purchase a Pod Point Solo 3S charger for just £499, a massive drop from its regular retail price of £1,099.

Drivers will be able to spread the remaining cost over a two-year period, as well as benefitting from a comprehensive five-year warranty and standard installation included in the price.

Pod Point is already one of the largest home charging operators in the UK, becoming the first provider to install over 250,000 chargers across the country.

The tariff, priced at £2,139, is powered by zero carbon electricity and features an off-peak electricity rate of 8.49p per kWh, available between midnight and 5am.

This discounted night-time rate applies to both home and car charging, allowing customers to make significant savings while they sleep.

Rich Hughes, director of retail at EDF, said motorists could benefit from lower upfront costs, as well as the £200 sign-up bonus.

He added: “Pod Point Plug and Power tariff already offers drivers lower upfront costs on purchasing a charger, by letting them spread the rest of the cost throughout their two-year tariff.

“We’re really pleased to offer drivers yet another great deal to help them save cash, and encourage more to make the switch to electric driving to reduce their carbon footprint.”

Drivers are encouraged to act quickly as the offer runs out on December 26, with the £200 credit being applied to customers’ accounts within 30 days.

Customers must have a smart meter installed and agree to half-hourly meter readings to be eligible for the scheme.

Rob McGinn, VP of sales at Pod Point, highlighted their commitment to accessible EV adoption: “We’re always looking for ways to make the EV transition as easy and affordable as possible for drivers.”

He praised the Pod Point Plug and Power bundle for providing “seamless home EV charging through our award-winning Solo 3S”.
