A mother who won £13,000 on the Postcode Lottery has died after being struck by a car that mounted the pavement in Essex.
Anna-Marie Stevens, 52, from Westcliff-on-Sea, was walking with her 23-year-old daughter when a car swerved onto the pavement and collided with her and her daughter, aged 23.
Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Stevens died in hospital following the incident at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John’s Road in Westcliff.
The tragedy comes just months after she won £13,000 in the Postcode Lottery. Her daughter’s injuries were described as not life-threatening or life-changing.

Emergency services rushed to the scene just before 5.30pm following reports of a collision between a car and two pedestrians. Local councillors reported the vehicle was speeding at the time of the incident.
Councillor Maxine Sadza said: “On behalf of the Milton councillors, it is with deep sadness that we have heard this morning that a speeding car mounted the pavement and hit a mother and child in St John’s Road in Westcliff last night.”
The 31-year-old female driver of the black Suzuki Splash was arrested at the scene. Essex Police said she was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. The driver remains in custody for questioning.
Police are appealing for members of the public to send them any dashcam footage from the area at the time of the collision. The victim’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

“A 52 year old woman and her 23 year old daughter were rushed to hospital, tragically, despite the best efforts of medical staff, the 52 year old woman passed away.
“Her daughter’s injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.
“The 31 year old driver of the car, a black Suzuki Splash, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. She remains in custody for questioning.”
Tributes have poured in for Stevens on social media, with friends describing her as “one amazing lady taken far too soon.”
A close friend wrote that she was “the kindest, most generous, funny, lovely lady.”
Others called her “lovely and caring” while describing her loss as “absolutely heartbreaking.”
