A good skin care routine will give your face a glow and it can even help fight the signs of ageing.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, an expert listed five ingredients you should look out for, including the “most powerful” one for anti-ageing.

Firstly, products containing retinoids and antioxidants are great for anti-ageing, medical aesthetic injector and skin specialist Emma Wedgwood explained.

“Retinoids, including retinol and prescription-strength retinoic acid, are among the most powerful anti-ageing ingredients, stimulating collagen production and promoting cell turnover.

“Antioxidants such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E are vital as they combat free radicals, brightening the skin and improving skin texture.”

Such ingredients can help to boost collagen production, which helps to improve the elasticity and firmness of skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a great ingredient for this, the expert said. She also recommended looking out for peptides and niacinamide.

Emma continued: “Hyaluronic acid is another key ingredient, as it helps maintain moisture and plump the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines.

“Incorporating peptides, which support collagen and elastin, can also enhance skin firmness and elasticity.

“Lastly, niacinamide is excellent for its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to improve the skin barrier.”

Everyone’s skin care routine will be different but using a cleanser, serum and moisturiser is a good place to start.

The expert explained: “The number one skin care tip that everyone can follow is to wear sunscreen daily. Regardless of skin type, tone, or age, applying broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is essential.

“UV radiation from the sun is a primary cause of premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, and an increased risk of skin cancer.

“Consistent use of sunscreen helps protect the skin from harmful UV rays, preventing damage and maintaining a youthful complexion.

“Avoiding tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure is crucial, as these can accelerate skin ageing and increase the risk of melanoma.”
