GB News presenter Bev Turner has claimed that the British people “are not on the side of Britain having to protect Ukraine”, as Putin’s latest threats to the West spark a heated debate on the conflict.
The Russian leader vowed that letting Ukraine use British-owned missiles would lead to wider war with Nato countries, warning that the use would amount to a “significant change in the very nature of the conflict”.
Putin told Russian state media: “This is not a question of allowing the Ukrainian regime to strike Russia with these weapons or not. It is a question of deciding whether or not Nato countries are directly involved in a military conflict.
“If this decision is taken, it will mean nothing less than the direct involvement of Nato countries, the US and European countries in the war in Ukraine. This will be their direct participation, and this, of course, will significantly change the very essence – the very nature – of the conflict.”

Defending Britain’s support for Ukraine in the war, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer claimed that “Russia started this conflict” and so “Russia can end this conflict straight away”.
Discussing the involvement of Britain in the war on GB News, host Bev Turner argued that the role of the UK is something that British people “are not on side with”, and could lead to the deaths of “more British men” as a result.
Lord Daniel Moylan said of the conflict: “Nato countries have been involved in the war in Ukraine almost from the beginning. There is a simple solution to it, which is that he shouldn’t have started the war and he needs to withdraw from Ukrainian territory.
“The alternative is, and this is equally a threat to the West, is that this war continues and continues, and that Ukraine as a country just bleeds out in front of our eyes, and that Putin effectively gets his way and the threat expands to Eastern Europe and beyond. So it’s absolutely vital, it seems to me, that this war is terminated in Ukraine’s favour and sooner rather than later.”

In response, Bev fumed that Moylan’s assessment of the situation will lead to “more dead men” from all countries.

Bev told GB News: “That sort of assessment of this situation for me is going to just lead to more dead Russian men, more dead Ukrainian men, and potentially more dead British men.
“I just think the British public are just not onside with this idea that we have to protect Ukraine at all costs. We’re edging towards a thermonuclear war here. And I’m not hearing anybody talk about peace.”
Disagreeing with Bev, former Labour MP Bill Rammell argued that although we want “peace”, the West needs to “put pressure on the Russians”.
Rammell responded: “What’s important about the meeting between Keir and Joe Biden is they will be looking at the intelligence and trying to work out what will really be the Russian reaction if they launch the missiles. Putin wants a broader Russia that takes in the whole of Ukraine.”

Bev hit back at Rammell, interjecting: “He’s never said that, he’s literally never said that. He didn’t say that on the eve of invasion – and don’t be emailing in to say I’m a Putin apologist, because I want peace.”
Rammell then added: “I want peace too, but you need to put pressure on the Russians. They only respect strength. I think there is a case for these missiles being used, but with very tight rules.
“Very tight rules of engagement so that you can only target military assets.”
Bev hit back again, arguing: “That will kill innocent Russian people. It would be at the risk of us in this country edging towards war with Russia.”
