Monty Don sparks concern as fans plead ‘stay safe’ over devastating Longmeadow flooding update

Monty Don has been urged by his social media followers to “stay put and stay safe” after he revealed the impact flooding has taken near his house.

The Gardeners’ World host and horticulturist shared a series of snaps from Longmeadow over the past few days, all of which show off the deep and murky waters that surround his home.

Longmeadow is situated in Herefordshire, an area of the country which has been battered by torrential downpours and strong winds over the past few days.

Taking to Instagram, Don revealed the sheer volume of water has left nearby roads out of action and made it near-impossible for him to leave his home.

Don has also claimed the flooding is the worst it’s been in over three decades near Longmeadow.

In one social media post in which he shared two snaps of the flooded ground, he wrote: “The highest flood in the past 33 years and rising.

“Roads in and out impassable but forecast good and we have plenty of sauce from last summer’s tomatoes, so can hunker down for a few days until it starts to go down.”

In a separate series of posts, Don continued to show off the floods near Longmeadow, captioning another post: “There is a pond somewhere under all that water.”

And he added alongside a third post about the flooding: “Wet has just got wetter.”

Before long, several of Don’s followers rushed to the comments of the posts to wish him well amid the unpredictable floods.

“Wow! It’s quite worrying how our weather is changing,” one fan admitted. “Glad your self-sufficiency is paying off and those tomatoes came good for you!”

While a second weighed in: “Would you ever consider moving? Is there no flood defence or drains? So sad to see.”

“I hope your house is okay!” a third concerned follower said while a fourth added: “Oh gosh, that looks scary actually.

“Hope all will be well when it subsides. We’re high up on a hillside but our south London ground is still utterly sodden.”

Occasionally I happen to mention on GW – usually on a lovely summers day -how wet Longmeadow can be, especially in winter when we dont film.

And a fifth urged: “Stay put, stay safe – I feel lots of tomato recipes coming on!”

While a sixth concurred: “Take care and I’m sure the doggies will want to stay indoors… and keep their paws dry!” (sic)

The flooding isn’t the only major development Don has overseen in recent weeks at Longmeadow.

Just before Christmas, Don admitted he was “very sad” as he unveiled a major part of his garden had been ripped up ahead of his latest plans to renovate.
