Miranda Hart has revealed the reason why she and her new husband cried during their first date.

The comedian, 51, confirmed she married her mystery partner and ‘best friend’ in an announcement on The One Show this week, after a flurry of rumours.

She has gone to great lengths not to reveal his identity, referring to him as simply ‘The Boy’ or ‘The Mould Man’.

Miranda met her husband when he came to fix a mould problem in her £2million home, he is described as ‘salt-and-pepper greying hair look on a fine featured man’.

Writing in her new autobiography, I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You, in quotes obtained by The Mirror, she explained: ‘Having met The Boy once briefly, and having chatted to him a couple of times on the phone (very nineties of us), I was already pretty taken by him.’

Miranda continued: ‘I therefore decided I was going to practise not hiding myself or any natural emotions. I was going to be vulnerable to forge as honest a connection as I could.

‘Yes, we’d been chatting and getting on very well and easily, thank you very much, please. I didn’t police a beautiful, natural, connecting moment when he told me about a dog he’d lost ten years earlier, and how sad he still feels when he thinks of that goodbye. He too welled up a little.’

Miranda confirmed she was married during an appearance on The One Show on Tuesday night.

The comedian appeared on the BBC show to promote her new book I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You, in which she writes about her husband.

She also gave a rare insight into her three decade mystery health battle and the moment she received her official diagnosis – she has Lyme Disease.

Shortly after her appearance, Miranda teased her new husband’s identity for the first time as she shared a video with him on the way home from the studio.

The short clip only revealed her partner’s hand as she showed off her wedding ring and thanked fans for their support after sharing their happy news.

Miranda confirmed she was married during an appearance on The One Show on Tuesday night, adding that she met ‘the one’ at the age of 49

She said: ‘I’m married, I got married at 51 and it’s just so lovely! I’d written Gary for onscreen Miranda and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met my person,’ but insisted she would keep her husband’s identity a secret.

‘It’s a little undercurrent in the book, I’m not going to reveal how we met because that’s a little bit of a twist. He’s my best friend, we had the best fun and I’m just thrilled to be a young bride at 51.’

The star added that she hoped readers of her book will feel hope from her love story, explaining; ‘The fact that I met someone during a pandemic, during chronic illness, when I couldn’t get out of bed or out of the house… I really, really wanted to meet someone, I didn’t want to do life on my own anymore.’

‘The fact that I could meet somebody, it’s not some some of romcom story but it’s hope. Whatever situation you are in, there is always hope, things really do change.’
