Mikel Arteta insists Arsenal will be in title contention with Liverpool until the very end and has warned doubters that no team in Premier League history has won all their games.
Arne Slot’s men lead second-placed Nottingham Forest by eight points in the league table, and have a game in hand compared to both Forest and Arsenal.
The Gunners face Brentford tomorrow knowing a win would lift the north London club to second.
When asked how hard it will be for Arsenal to catch Liverpool, Arteta said: ‘I don’t know, and that doesn’t depend on us. We have to continue to be like a hammer – be there every day, every day, every day. If somebody wins all their matches, congratulate them and go to the next season.
‘But if they don’t, which in the history it hasn’t happened, we will be there.’
Arteta also believes there is an overall improvement in his squad from last season having had to navigate more injuries and games in their schedule.
Mikel Arteta is adamant his Arsenal side can chase Liverpool down in the title race
Liverpool have a nine-point advantage over Arsenal after a stunning first half of the season
But Arteta believes Arsenal can catch Arne Slot’s men and win their first title in over 20 years
He added: ‘What we’ve proven already this season is if that would’ve happened last season – playing the amount of games we’ve played with 10 men, all the injuries that we’ve had in the squad — for sure we wouldn’t be the position we’re in today in all competitions.
‘So the team has made another step and is adapting to new circumstances. We now have another one of more games with less players, so let’s face it.’
