Just as the appearance of your skin changes with age, your hair undergoes a transformation too.

As well as going grey, women may find that their hair becomes thinner and loses density as they get older. They may also find that their hair lacks the volume and body they were used to in their younger years.

However, according to one hair enthusiast, women in midlife and above can still create the illusion of voluminous locks with a simple styling hack.

Dominique Sachse, an author, YouTuber and more who aims to elevate women in midlife, took to TikTok to share her top tip for achieving volume.

‘The secret to full volume hair is really emphasising up here at the top and the crown’

Referencing the crown of her head, @dominiquesachse said: “The secret to full volume hair is really emphasising up here at the top and the crown – it’s amazing the difference.”

If you don’t consciously add volume to this part of your hair, you run the risk of it looking “lifeless”.

She recommended “focusing the lift at the crown” and “smoothing the hair at the sides” rather than creating a “bubble” at the front of the head.

Dominique said: “You want the poof and the pop in the back.” The hair enthusiast explained that having height at the crown and smoothness at the sides works wonders for the face.

According to Dominique, this contrast “accentuates a jawline and has a lifting effect on the face”.

One way to further elevate this hairstyle is a complementary haircut. Dominique advised that layers can also help to create a voluminous look.

She claimed that “haircut is really important as to how much lift you’re going to get in your hair”.

According to the hair experts at John Frieda, there are many ways women can give their hair a volume boost at home.

A volumising shampoo and conditioner could do the trick, then, when your hair is washed, try blow-drying it upside down.

The experts said that “gently teasing your roots adds all-day volume, whether you’re wearing your hair up or down”.

They advised: “It works best on slightly dirty hair, but if your hair’s freshly washed, use a root booster to add texture.

“Split your hair into sections and using a comb, start gently ‘pushing’ hair from the middle of the section further up towards the root. You want to create natural-looking volume, not tangles, so go slowly and repeat several times on each section until you’ve reached your desired volume.”

In other hair news, women have been warned that they are probably washing their hair wrong – there’s an important step before using shampoo.
