Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna has strict rules on who can visit the stricken Formula One legend, according to his ex-Ferrari team-mate.

It has been almost a decade since the seven-time Formula One champion suffered massive head injuries while skiing in the French resort of Meribel on December 29, 2013.

The condition of Schumacher, who was put into an artificial coma and underwent several surgeries, has been shrowded in mystery ever since, with only brief updates coming from his inner circle.

Wife Corinna – who married Schumacher in 1995 and has two children with him, has been a staunch protector of his privacy and has been sitting closely by his side during the last ten years after the horrific accident.

Now a former Ferrari team-mate of Schumacher has shed further light on the situation and how Corinna keeps a close guard on who visits him.

Luca Badoer said, via the Sun: ‘Only a few people are allowed to visit. Corinna decides who is allowed to see him.

His former Ferrari team-mate Luca Badoer claimed only a few people are allowed to see him

‘The family wants to maintain a sort of secrecy about this and I respect their will.

Badoer – who is one of the people permitted to visit – added: ‘They do all this for the good of Michael.’

Schumacher was withdrawn from the coma early the following year but hasn’t been seen in public since with updates as to his wellbeing few and far between.

Former Ferrari and FIA chief Jean Todt said Schumacher ‘is simply not the Michael he used to be, he is different’ in an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe earlier this month.

After years of battling for his privacy, wife Corinna has now been attempting to get on with life again – according to another of the former racer’s old team-mates in Johnny Herbert.

Schumacher has not been seen publicly since the serious accident 10 years ago

‘She [Corinna] has said they are trying to carry on as a family as Michael would have wanted,’ he said.

‘They are getting on with their lives but private does mean private. It would be lovely just to have him back.’

Corinna and Schumacher have a daughter Gina-Maria and son Mick – who has gone on to follow in his father’s footsteps by becoming an F1 driver.

It came after Schumacher’s brother Ralf admitted his condition may never improve as he spoke about the impact of the accident on the family.

‘I miss the Michael of the old days,’ he said. ‘Life is unfair from time to time.

‘Michael was very lucky throughout his life. But then there was this tragic accident.’

The 48-year-old entrepreneur and pundit added: ‘Fortunately, advanced medical science provides many opportunities. However, nothing is like it used to be.’
