The Met Office has issued four separate snow, rain and wind warnings for today as the UK is battered with stormy weather during the festive period.

The warnings are in place all across the UK, ranging from Scotland to southern England.

The Met Office alerts come are in place for December 27, with one of the warnings beginning at 0.00am and lasting until 11.59pm.

The rain and snow warning is in place in parts of Scotland, and the weather office warns that “heavy rain and snow will result in some disruption”.

The Met Office said: “A band of heavy rain and hill snow will move northeast across Scotland on Wednesday. At low elevations (roughly below 200 metres) this will fall as rain, with 20-30 mm developing quite widely across the warning area, with a risk of up to 50 mm in some locations.

“At higher elevations (roughly above 200 metres) snow is expected, with 10-15cm likely to accumulate, particularly on southeast-facing hills and will affect some higher transport routes. Very strong southeasterly winds will accompany the rain and snow and exacerbate any impacts.”

The weather office said that there is a small chance that power cuts could occur as a result of the heavy rain and snow.

Homes and businesses could be flooded, and more rural communities could be cut off.

Poor travel conditions could occur as a result of the poor weather, with the Met Office warning that roads could close and some vehicles could be left stranded as a result.

The affected regions are Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian and South West Scotland/Lothian Borders.

Two separate yellow rain alters have been issued by the weather office; one in northern England and the other covering Wales and parts of southern England.

Areas covered by the warning will see heavy rain which “brings the potential for disruption to travel and a risk of flooding”.

Snow is expected in parts of Scotland

The warning covers a large portion of the UK with regions affected including; East Midlands, North West England, South West England, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber.

It begins on December 27 at midnight and finishes at 3pm.

The final warning is a yellow wind alert covering much of the southern coast.

The weather office warns of “strong winds [that] are likely to lead to some transport disruption”.

Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are to be expected, and it is likely that some coastal areas will be affected by large waves.

Impacted regions are the East of England, London & South East England and South West England and the weather warning will conclude at 3pm.
