Wendell Pierce, who played Meghan Markle’s father in Suits, has made a playful reference to the Duchess of Sussex in his new CBS police drama Elsbeth.
The 60-year-old actor, now starring as Captain Charles Wallace Wagner in the Chicago-based series, includes a humorous nod to his former co-star in an upcoming episode set to air on January 30.
The episode, titled “Unalive and Well”, features Pierce’s character making a witty quip about the Duchess of Sussex while discussing a case at an exclusive spa.
In the scene, Wagner instructs Elsbeth to investigate a homicide involving a young man named Cole Campbell, who was found deceased after his car ran off the highway.

The victim was last seen at “some fancy spa where celebrities and the royals go to”, Wagner explains.
He then delivers the punchline: “The global press was already trying to frame Meghan Markle, and she wasn’t even there!”

“When [Meghan] came into town, she got an award last year, had a chance to say hello and wish she and Prince Harry well and wish the children well,” he told the publication.
While Pierce didn’t specify the exact date, the meeting likely occurred when the couple visited New York in May 2023 for Meghan’s ‘Women of Vision’ award.

“It was great to see them because there’s this public persona, and then it’s the two that I know,” he shared.

“They look very much in love and were very happy, so that’s the most important thing,” Pierce remarked.
