Meghan Markle has been warned of the scenario she would want to “avoid at all costs” as she and Prince Harry face a potential crossroads ahead of Christmas.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited to the UK to celebrate Christmas with Earl Spencer, Harry’s uncle, according to a royal insider.

A source claimed that the estranged royal couple have been invited to stay with the Spencers at Althorp, but admitted it is “far too early to say whether they will take him up on it”.

Amid their ongoing feud with the rest of the Royal Family, the source also claimed that an invitation for the Sussexes to stay with the King and the rest of Harry’s family in Sandringham has “not yet been extended”.

Discussing the possible return for Harry and Meghan to the UK for the festivities, US commentator Lee Cohen warned that Earl Spencer is “lining up behind the wrong family”, and has an “axe to grind” with the monarchy.

Cohen told host Nana Akua: “Along with their children, Harry and Meghan may spend Christmas in the UK and have been invited by his uncle, Earl Charles Spencer, to stay at Althorp.

“Charles Spencer may see this as his moment, but quite honestly, he’s lining up behind the wrong family. He’s choosing the wrong team to align with.”

In disagreement with Cohen, Nana argued that Prince Harry and Earl Spencer may be closer than we think, as the Spencer family are “probably upset with how the Royal Family treated Diana”.

Nana explained: “He’s probably quite upset by the way his sister Diana was treated. So he is in support of his sister, and it’s fair enough, because Harry is obviously the next closest connection that he has to his two sisters.”

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Turning the discussion to the possibility of the Sussexes being invited to stay with the Royal Family in Sandringham, Cohen claimed that it is a scenario Meghan would “want to avoid at all costs” due to the “accusations they’ve made in the past” towards the royals.

Cohen told GBN America: “I don’t think that’s going to happen for Harry and Meghan, turning up in Sandringham. After all the unforgivable actions that they have taken against the Royal Family, including accusing them of racism and so many other unseemly things that Meghan would have to face.

“Also with the things that she has so strangely accused them of, I’m certain she would want to avoid that at all costs, considering how appalling those charges were.”

Delivering her verdict on whether the Sussexes will return to the UK at all for Christmas, Nana claimed that not only are they concerned for their security, but they may also be “embarrassed” about their fallout with the Royal Family over the years.

Nana said: “They would argue that it’s because of the security that they’re not coming here, but I suspect it’s for the sheer embarrassment that they feel.

“They probably acknowledge it and don’t want to show face after what they’ve been saying about their own family.”

Speaking to the Express, the source also added: “There hasn’t been an invitation extended to Sandringham just yet, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be one forthcoming.

“It would be highly unlikely if there was an invitation extended [to Sandringham] and I don’t think they [the Sussexes) would take them up on it anyway.”
