The Duchess of Sussex has postponed the launch of her new Netflix lifestyle and cooking series due to the California wildfire crisis.

‘With Love, Meghan’ was originally scheduled to debut on January 15 but will now premiere on March 4.

In a statement released on Sunday, Meghan said: “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”

The series is reported to feature tributes to California and the Duchess’s connections to the state.

Last week, Prince Harry and Meghan were seen volunteering at an evacuation site in Pasadena, where World Central Kitchen was providing aid to those affected by the Eaton Fire.

The couple, who served anonymously, also made a financial contribution to relief efforts through their Archewell Foundation.

Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo praised their involvement, telling Fox News: “It’s great people, great personalities and great heart for them to come out here and meet with the first responders, meet with the people who were affected.”

The Mayor added that the royal couple ‘really buoyed the spirits of the first responders’ during their visit.

“They took the time to meet the people who were affected and spend time. They are just very caring people who are very concerned for their friends and neighbours,” the Mayor said.

Royal author Phil Dampier previously said: “The timing of Meghan’s Netflix show could hardly be worse as hundreds of people have lost their homes in the terrible fires”.

“The last thing anyone is interested in is a programme about having friends round to eat canapés or arrange flowers when the city is going up in flames and people have lost everything.”

He praised the couple’s decision to opened up their £23million Montecito mansion to friends and loved ones forced to evacuate.

Extreme winds have exacerbated the roaring blaze, as flames engulfed hillsides in the Golden State, with US officials declaring a state of emergency.

The death toll currently stands at 16, however, the number is expected to rise after cadaver dogs go through the ruins of the devastated neighbourhoods.

Three blazes continue to burn around Los Angeles, with the fire threat remaining “very high” due to strong winds, LA county officials have said. The largest fire is in the Palisades, which has burnt through 23,000 acres.

California governor Gavin Newsom has announced an independent investigation after the fire hydrants used to tackle wildfires ran dry.

Tanks with water were emptied due to what authorities say was “tremendous demand”, with some residents attempting to put out the flames with water from their pools and garden hoses.
