Meghan Markle and Princess Kate’s relationship was “cold”, a royal expert has claimed, with the pair thought not to be on speaking terms since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would be stepping back from working duties in January 2020.

Royal Commentator Richard Fitzwilliams spoke exclusively to GB News on former suits actress relationship to the Royal Family after she accused the firm of racism and bullying towards her.

He said: “The relationship between Meghan and Catherine was cold or cool, putting it mildly.

“Meghan only lasted about a year and a half as a senior working royal before they indicated that they were unhappy.

On the Duchess’s exit in January 2020, along with her husband Prince Harry, he said: “It all went very wrong, precisely why is still a matter for debate.

“I wouldn’t put a specific reason behind it because Harry was unhappy, and I think Meghan provided the way out in a sense.”

In March 2021, the couple publicly spoke out about their experiences within the firm in an infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, aired on ITV.

Fitzwilliams pointed out that the institution has scaled down in recent years with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Prince Andrew have all stepped back from royal duties in the last five years.

The royal expert described the transition of responsibilities to the younger generation in the Royal family as “a process that’s ongoing.”
