McDonald’s has confirmed it is bringing back the cult favourite McRib sandwich after nearly a decade.

The iconic menu, which last graced the fast food chain’s menus since 2015, will make a triumphant return on October 16.

The revival of the sandwich comes off the back of years of petitions and Britons begging on social media.

It will be time-limited, however, meaning McDonald’s enthusiasts will have to act fast if they want to savour the McRib.

Head of menu at McDonald’s UK Thomas O’Neill described the McRib as “more than just a sandwich”, labelling it “a phenomenon”.

Having first launched in 1981, the treat features a boneless pork patty shaped like ribs, slathered in BBQ sauce, topped with onions and pickles.

The meaty snack served in a lightly toasted bun, enjoyed unmatched popularity when it was first introduced.

It was discontinued four years after its debut but has made several comebacks over the years.

Since it was last enjoyed by fans in 2015, many have flocked to social media clamouring for its return.

Thomas noted: “We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social. We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social – and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item.

“Knowing how well-loved the McRib is, we had very little choice – we had to make it happen.

“It was time to step up and satisfy the cravings of the McRibs enthusiasts across the country.”

The confirmation comes weeks after fans were teased about the potential return of the McRib on their McDonald’s app.
