• Mason Greenwood has been named Getafe’s player of the season
  • He scored eight goals and registered six assists in LaLiga last term
  • He is currently considering his future as he looks set to leave Man United

Mason Greenwood has been named Getafe’s player of the season after starring on loan at the Spanish club last term.

Greenwood, 22, joined Getafe on a season-long loan from Manchester United last summer following a mutual agreement with the Red Devils that it would be best for him to recommence his career away from Old Trafford after he was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted rape.

The Crown Prosecution Service subsequently dropped the charges in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew and new material came to light.

He settled into life quickly in Spain, and was named player of the month at Getafe in December and April.

After finishing the campaign with eight goals and six assists in 33 appearances, he has now been voted player of the season.

Greenwood had 14 goal involvements in LaLiga last season, and is now wanted by multiple major European clubs

Greenwood posed with his award on Sunday as Getafe announced the news on social media, but his time at the club appears to be over due to Getafe not having the budget to sign him permanently.

The forward has one year remaining on his United contract, but looks likely to leave this summer as the club looks to ensure he doesn’t leave for free in 2025.

Multiple European giants have shown interest in Greenwood, with Juventus making a £40m proposal for him earlier this month.

Valencia also joined the race for his signature, before Mail Sport exclusively revealed that Lazio opened talks with United over a £30m deal that could rise due to performance related add-ons.

Marseille became the latest club to explore a deal for Greenwood last week, leaving the striker to weigh up his options after a strong season at Getafe.

Greenwood has reportedly told Juventus that they are his No1 choice, and he could join Douglas Luiz at the Allianz Stadium after the midfielder completed his £42m move from Aston Villa on Sunday.

Juventus can offer Greenwood Champions League football after they finished third in Serie A in 2023-24, although they were 23 points adrift of champions Inter Milan.
