GB News host Martin Daubney was visibly moved during a discussion about grooming gang victims, comparing the scandal to “the Post Office scandal for the white working classes”.

The emotional moment came as Special Investigations Editor at The Mail, Sue Reid, detailed harrowing accounts of systematic abuse across Britain.

Reid told GB News that cover-ups of the scandal have persisted, suggesting that “money and political power” were potential motivations behind the concealment.

“I believe it to be true – an offensive against the white working class,” Reid said, though noting that victims included those of mixed race, Sikh and Hindu backgrounds.

The scandal has sparked renewed calls for a national inquiry, with Rotherham MP Sarah Champion joining a growing list of Labour MPs demanding a fresh investigation.

Champion said: “Having worked widely with victims and survivors, and frontline professionals, I have long believed that we need to fully understand the nature of this crime and the failures in the response of public bodies if we are to truly protect children.”

Daubney emphasised the widespread impact of the abuse, stating: “It’s just astonishing. So often in the studio, I get so moved by these sort of stories. I think this, to me, feels like the Post Office scandal for the white working classes. And when are they going to give the proper inquiry this demands?

“Thousands of girls have been impacted, what about the fathers, the brothers, the sisters, the parents who never got over it, the family members – it’s absolutely torn communities apart.”

Reid described how one Rotherham victim’s family was forced to move abroad after receiving threats from gang members.

“They told her to be quiet, to shut up, never to speak,” Reid revealed. “And that was going on nine years later.”

Reid also detailed how one victim was attacked near Rotherham bus station, recounting the horrific aftermath.

“She showed me where it was happening that night, right by the bus station where she had been raped in her white socks. Her white socks were splattered with blood afterwards,” Reid said.

The victim was photographed by her attackers and “left to go home on the bus alone,” Reid added.

The Mail’s Special Investigations Editor also exposed what she called “two lies” about the victims’ backgrounds.

“The first lie was that all the girls were feckless, that is the biggest lie of all. Many came from hard working, decent families, working class and middle class. Some owned chains of grocery stores,” she said.

She highlighted a second deception regarding victims being in care. “They had been taken into care by social services, who said to their parents, you’re the one who’s done the damage to this child, you should have prevented it, we’re taking your child into care,” Reid explained.

She concluded: “So immediately, the parents did not trust the social services.”

In a statement, the Home Office has said: “No child should ever suffer sexual abuse and exploitation, and it’s paramount that we do more to protect vulnerable children. Which is why we’re working at pace across Government to drive forward real action to implement the recommendations of the independent inquiry.”
