Dramatic new bird’s eye view pictures of twilight Manchester show just how fast the city’s skyline and urban landscape is changing.

Taken over the last few days as the city celebrates the festive season, the Santa’s sleigh swoop over the city’s rooftops shows  Manchester’s buildings old and new – with historic rooftops rubbing shoulders with the newest of the new city towers standing tall alongside.

From the glass domes of the historic Corn Exchange and the majestic Manchester Cathedral and Exchange Square to crow’s nest views of St Ann’s Square, King Street and Piccadilly Gardens, and the far-away glow of festive market stalls.

Councillor Pat Karney, Christmas spokesperson for Manchester City Council, said: ‘It’s not often we get to see the view that Rudolph and all the reindeer get of Manchester at Christmas as they swoop through the night skies. And what a fabulous Santa’s sleigh view it is! A true moment-in-time of the unique and ever-changing skyline of our wonderful city, the best city in the world.

“One thing that never changes here in Manchester though is just how brilliant and amazing the people of our great city are – they give so much and deserve only the best.

“Here’s to a Christmas filled with love and a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year ahead for all of us.”
