Det Supt Ben Cottam, head of investigations for Counter Terrorism Policing North West, said Hamasaleh had shared the material “recklessly”.

He had also admitted he “intended to encourage individuals to subscribe to the same extremist views he held”, he added.

Hamasaleh will also be made subject to a serious crime prevention order for a period of five years following his release, that will restrict his activity.

Det Supt Cottram said the “potential ripple effect” of sharing the material was one that “could be felt across communities”.

He urged anyone who finds extremist content to report it to police.
