Hasegawa is a key member of Japan’s midfield

Japan midfielder Yui Hasegawa has signed a contract extension that keeps her at Manchester City until 2027.

She has made 41 appearances since she joined from fellow Women’s Super League side West Ham United in 2022.

Hasegawa, 26, was named in the Professional Football Association’s WSL Team of the Year for 2022-23 and was nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or.

“I couldn’t be happier,” said Hasegawa, who has played 77 times for Japan since her debut in 2017.

“One of the biggest reasons I’ve extended is the football style. I want to win the league, Champions League and cup, that’s why I decided to stay here.”

City are second in the WSL table, three points behind leaders and reigning champions Chelsea.
