The Manchester City star told Danny “keep your head up”, adding “going through a tough time at the moment, keep your head, but we’re all with you, keep going”.

“It went down a storm,” Nigel said.

“He couldn’t believe it, we’ve played it to him numerous times now.

“He is non-verbal but he can still make his thoughts known – and you certainly know when he’s happy and that made him very happy.”

The club has also invited Danny to watch their home match against Southampton on 26 October.

His parents said he was a very active boy before his stroke, adding that he had always been a big Manchester City fan.

They are appealing for funds to try and move to a new home that can be adapted for Danny’s needs so he can leave hospital.

“We’re going to get him home,” they said, and thanked people for their messages of support.
