A 21-year-old man has died following a “disturbance” in Paisley after fireworks were aimed at people on a residential street.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 4.15pm on Saturday, after they received reports of a confrontation in the Foxbar area.

Witnesses said that fireworks were aimed at people during the incident in Renfrewshire.

Robert McNally, 21, was found seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is being treated as unexplained and officers have erected a cordon around the residential street.

A 19-year-old has been arrested for alleged assault. The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Detective Inspector Euan McMillan said: “Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident, however there is no threat to the wider public.

“Officers will remain in the area as inquiries are carried out and anyone with any concerns can approach them.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Emergency services were called to Maree Road and Lochbroom Road in Paisley following a report of a disturbance around 4.15pm on Saturday, January 18.

“A 21-year-old man was found seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and his next of kin are aware.”

Neighbours and the wider community have paid their respects to the 21-year-old following the “terrible tragedy”.

Lewis Cameron said: “Poor lad still had his whole life ahead of him. My thoughts are with his family.”

Ronnie Gordon added: “Such a shame to hear another young life has been taken. It’s a heartbreaking effect on the family and friends for years to come.”

“A terrible tragedy. So young. Thoughts are with the family,” Mandie Rannachan said.
